...for a moonrise/sunset ride.

As adventurepdx illustrated so well for us, a ride to take in the moonrise and sunset from a strategic spot can be great fun.  I was so inspired by his example, I decided I'd pursue this form of micro-adventure for myself.

Then I thought it might be fun to invite all my Steel on Wheels Forum buddies to join me...from where ever you are.  On April 22, the full moon falls on a Friday.  So those of us with a typical work week might find it more practical to get away for the evening.

The idea here is that who ever is interested in participating will do their own thing...in their own location...in their own way, and follow-up, posting here about their experiences. Simple...and potentially amusing.  If my schedule allows, I might try for a practice run on March 23.  But the virtual ride meet-up is scheduled for April 22.

Anyone out there want to join in?

I am going to try and make the meet up, I am heading for the top of Hill Top road where I should see the sun set over the Catskills and the moon rise over the Taconic hills. If the conditions are right it should work out. I am signed up for a charity ride early the next morning so I will not stay too late.
Hopfully I will be making coffee outside as well.

Excellent! I'm happy to hear I won't be riding solo as usual. I've got a sort of high spot on a rural roadside in mind that should give me wide open empty ranch land west and east. I've seen the moonrise from that spot before and it was great. If the weather cooperates for most of us, this could be interesting.

I'll sure try to join in.  Daylight Savings Time should help give us the extra time to get things sorted out after work and make the ride.  I'm thinking a moonlit lake ride over the dam at Stockton Lake.  Coffee outside sounds like a definite plus, Spencer!

I'll conditionally say I'm joining in. I'm having to travel a bit for work, and I should be up in the mountains in the snow then. I'll see what I can pull off.

I'm in. It will be one less ride theme I'll have to think up for 30 days of biking. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled over the next seven weeks to find the perfect location.

I'll put it on my calendar. I'm already thinking of a good spot. I'm hoping for good weather.

Man, sounds like a horrible idea.

[wink]

Well, the gauntlet has been thrown down! I'm aiming to do this as well, though if the weather is crap, I might not.

And my addition to the challenge is to try and add a "water feature" to the sunset/moonrise. After seeing Spencer talk about the Catskills and Taconics, I'd like to say "and some hills or mountains", but I don't want to make all you flatlanders feel THAT bad. [tongue]

In any case, I'll probably do it down at Broughton Beach on the Columbia River. Oh, and I'll be seeing the Tualatin Mountains and the Cascade Mountains, too. [biggrin]

Well...we've got a respectable group building for a springtime "meet-up".  So then, let's be about preparations and interpretations of how to best enjoy a moonrise/sunset where you are...so that you can tell a story here that can be enjoyed by your Steel on Wheels colleagues.  Now then, who'll be in charge of the weather?

And this is when I put my "administrator" hat and remind you, Pondero (and everyone else!) that there is a SOW Calendar! See the tabs on top? So this would be something good to add to our own calendar. In fact, this would be the first thing on there as far as we know!

What might be more functional is a SOW google cal. I don't know if the one here can link to that. Doug of Lugs, any thoughts?

Calendar?! How did I miss that?

The event has now been added to the calendar. If I get some spare time to go with my ambition, I'll post the full moon dates for the remainder of 2016 as a reference for those of us who might choose to pursue this activity as a matter of regular practice. But now, I've got to go ride my bicycle and brew some coffee.

Yeah, I lied awake all night last night worrying about that! [wink]

Anyways, to everyone:
If you go to the calendar and click on the event, you can set up a reminder for that event. It looks like for now that you can only make one reminder.

I don't know if there is anyway to link it to a Google Calendar, though, that would be ideal!
