And to find out sun and moon info for your locale:
http://www.timeanddate.com/astronomy/

You can also set it in your Google Cal if you have one.

As for phone apps, I use "LunaSolCal".

*****
And Pondero, I added this info to your event listing.

Reminder...Full moon on Wednesday of next week for those planning a practice run for the moonrise/sunset virtual group ride next month on April 22. Maybe scope out some viewing options, practice using your food and beverage carrying luggage, or try out that new bike.

I've got a couple of viewing sites in mind. One is fairly close, and I think I'll try to ride out there Wednesday and pick a good spot so I can hopefully get a decent photo to share with the group next month.

Happy practicing...

We are now in the extended forecast window for this event. The long range forecast for Duluth, MN where I'm at is calling for mix of clouds and sun during the day with an unseasonably high of 61. The low for Friday night is calling for a temp of 41. It is also calling for a 60% chance of rain Friday night. Cloudy skies and rain would put a damper on my viewing here. I guess I'll have to wait and see what the timing looks like for the rain when we get closer to that date. How does your weather forecast look?

I really don't. I know that the forecast will change daily right up until the day of the event.

Well, my forecast here for Friday is not looking so swell. Cloudy, chance o' showers. I think I may be virtually participating in the virtual meetup!

Hoping conditions improve between now and then...and for all you moonrise/sunset adventurers.

Our forecast is for mostly sunny, light breeze, and upper 70s.

We had about 3 inches of rain yesterday morning in about 4 hours, and other parts of Texas (Houston, for example) are dealing with serious flooding, but this Friday could be good in my neighborhood.

Geez, the forecast got worse for me for Friday, now a 80% chance of showers. It'll be a Steel on Wheels miracle if I'll see the moonrise.

Now if it was the past few days with sun and highs 80-90F...

Two days out and we're down from 40% of rain overnight Friday to 0%. Yeah. But, a little colder with a high Friday of 49 and dropping to 38 Friday night. Intervals of clouds and sunshine during the day. Looks like I'm in! [smile]

My (one day in advance) forecast...

weather.jpg
This could work out well.

I'll probably stay with my plan to ride out to the closest of my two options, but I'm a little tempted to venture farther out.  Except for the horribly muddy roads to get there, it would really be perfect spot. Bah...I should probably do the safe thing and plan for a high probability of actually arriving. Maybe I save the "perfect spot" for one of those dry and dusty summer evenings.

Rain today. Rain Saturday, Sunday and Monday. But Friday looks good, although a bit cool.
IMG_0160.PNG
It's going to happen for me. I even invited a friend. Sadly, he will not be riding a steel bike. He's bringing his aluminum mtn bike. I told him he could still come along. He was a reader of my last blog and I a reader of his blog from way back.

We've decided to try a spot in West Duluth called Bardons Peak. My first instinct was somewhere down by Lake Superior. A moonrise over Lake Superior is fantastic, but it's not the best spot for sunsets. Bardons Peak sits about 12 miles west of Lake Superior about 400 ft in elevation above it.
Finally a fog-less day 008.JPGHere's a picture from last September at Bardons Peak overlook. It's looking east (well, more northeast in the picture) towards Lake Superior. This should be our view with the full moon rising over it.

Anyone local that reads this is welcome to join us. The wall should make a nice place to sit and brew up some hot drinks. It's a bit exposed and could get chilly. We are planning on bringing our winter outer wear for the evening.
