If you’ve been around here long enough, you know I like watching the full moon rise. Besides moonrises being cool, the big reason is that the full moon rises around the same time as sunset, so if you pick a good spot, you can see them both. My favorite spot to do it in Portland is Broughton Beach on the Columbia River, because you get a great view of both.

On Monday it was a nice sunny day with a high of 54F/12C, so the first good time to do a Sunset/Moonrise in quite some time. And because I felt like it, I did a Coffee Outside!

Enjoy these photos, and read the full report here.

Nice!
Yet another great idea I can steal from you.
If the stars align (or the sun and moon anyway) next month I'll have to give it a shot. I can watch the moon rise over Lake Superior while the sun sets over the hillside.

I'm am SO in.  I think I've got a good spot in mind that is fairly convenient.

Maybe we should pick a date and have a Steel on Wheels Forum moonrise/sunset virtual group outing.  The April 22 version falls on a Friday.  That might be a good option.

That would probably work for me!

And remember, you don't always need coffee, tea, or a hot beverage at a sunset/moonrise. Adult beverages also work. [biggrin]

Ok, I think I would like to try from over on the east coast too. Any pointers on how to capture these images with an iPhone? Do I need something to keep it steady? Will I loose points if I stop at the quick mart for a coffee?

Methinks someone needs to get a coffee outside kit! [wink]

And I used my "good" camera, a Canon Powershot, for the pics. I find that cameraphones are not good enough for things like moonrises.

I'm retired and on a fixed income...so it's Uncle Jim for me!
All kidding aside, I have all my required Coffee Outside gear but need to know how I can get a sexy ACW coffee cup like Shawn's. Currently I'm using a (gasp!) plastic cup.[eek]

Another option is the "Gentleman Cyclist" mug put out by Jon Sharratt, the guy behind the Lake Pepin ride:

(and look under "Parts")
